How has academia responded to the urgent needs created by COVID-19? A multi-level global, regional and national analysis

In the context of COVID-19 pandemic, gaining insights into how academia has responded to this urgent challenge is great significance. This article presents academic response patterns at a global, regional and national level from an analysis publication volume versus reported cases COVID-19, scientific collaboration research focus. We also compare activity associated with newly emerging infection that related long-standing infections. Our results show community quickly COVID-19. The highly developed countries, which have highest number confirmed cases, are major contributors. National-level reveals diverse different countries. Specifically, in United Kingdom remained relatively constant throughout whole year (2020), while global share China’s output was prone shift as its domestic pandemic status changed. Strong alliances formed among countries capabilities pandemic. distribution disciplines decentralised, indicating broad knowledge base contributes literature. Most analysed dynamic focus vary over time evolves, except India. As one world’s biggest suppliers vaccines, India makes consistent efforts on vaccine research, especially those pharmaceutical preparations. findings may serve resources for fostering strategies respond future threats pandemics.
